More than half of PCs don’t have Windows 10 AU yet, and no one’s quite sure why - schroederront1998

Microsoft appears to be pickings a conservative, go-slow approach to rolling unfashionable Windows 10's Day of remembrance Update—enough indeed that less than half of all Windows 10 PCs rich person it more than six weeks after its administrative unit release.

Exactly 34.5 percent of altogether PCs are running Windows 10 version 1607, aka the Windows 10 Day of remembrance Update, according to AdDuplex, maker of a Windows 10 SDK for third-company app makers. Windows 10's Fall Update still makes up the majority of PCs.

"It's hard to know on the dot what is going happening," Steve Kleynhans, an analyst for Gartner, said in an email. "Some of this is intentional throttling on Microsoft's part.  I've got several machines that are still waiting for the Gold. They are many of my elderly more 'hard' machines, so there is by all odds some selection sue going on. I think this is completely part of the learning process for Microsoft."

Microsoft declined to comment on the AdDuplex data. "The Anniversary Update will bear on to roll out over time," a company representative said in an email. "Given the scale of delivering updates to more 350 million each month hot devices around the earthly concern, our rollout volition be measured and deliberate to ensure we deliver a bang-up customer experience."

Why this matters: The conservative approach May only be an attempt to derogate problems that have already plagued users, much as an go forth where PCs linear the Windows 10 AU froze when their information was split betwixt an SSD and a received hard drive. With Microsoft now giving you just 10 days to ramble back to the previous build, some columnists warned enterprises to quash information technology completely. The Current Branch for Business, an enterprise elevate policy Microsoft implemented in 2015, also deploys Windows 10 updates sometimes months after consumers have them. Businesses on the CBB will receive the Anniversary Update most liable in December,  Kleynhans added.

Information technology's too likely that Microsoft's conservative approach is intended to change consumer attitudes and perceptions nigh Windows 10 and its upgrades: That instead of something to be avoided, they should be welcomed. That's not going to be user-friendly.

"I think around [of it] is caution and some is a response to real issues (like the USB Kindle problem)," Kleynhans wrote. "I think Microsoft wants to be doubly cautious to understand how to ensure updates are a positive experience and not a negative disruption."
